Operating Philosophy

Robin Russell & Associates has assembled a group of very experienced technical personnel, each of whom it engages on a purely contract basis. Robin Russell has long believed in the premise that the highest productivity is achieved when workers are paid for their outputs rather than their inputs. When workers know that the harder they work and the higher the quality of the work they produce, the more they can earn, they will perform at their very best. In effect, they are paid for end results.
 
In the field of subdivision development, where results can be easily quantified, we have installed a highly effective operating model, which covers all technical personnel. Each engineer, designer and project manager operates his own individual consulting practice. They seldom even set foot in RRA offices because time is money to them and they have total freedom as to how and when they perform their work. The added cost of providing their own offices, equipment, safety infrastructure, etc. is more than offset by the elimination of non-productive travelling time.
 
Each contractor is rewarded according to the success of his projects. Those who produce the best results are offered the most rewarding projects. They also know that when rework is necessary at the company's cost, or other penalties are incurred, then they will pay a proportionate share of that cost. That has been a powerful motivation to get projects and designs right the first time.
 
Unfortunately, this contract model does not fit all staff. Where work outputs cannot be quantified easily, or where staff supply labour only, then they must be engaged as salaried staff. Our head office clerical staff, IT staff and Telecommunications Manager fall into this category. Although they are key contributors, they are employed on a permanent basis.
